Written by LIXIL | Feb 13, 2024

LIXIL’s commitment to making positive environmental impact is recognized with top rating from CDP

Tokyo – LIXIL Corporation (“LIXIL”, TSE Code: 5938), maker of pioneering water and housing products, has earned its place on CDP's Climate Change A List for the first time, joining 346 companies worldwide and 109 from Japan. LIXIL was also rated B for Water Security.

CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project)1 is a global non-profit organization that runs the world’s leading environmental disclosure platform. In cooperation with institutional investors, CDP annually collects and evaluates data from major global corporations on business risks and opportunities related to climate change, water resources, and forest conservation. This includes conducting surveys to evaluate each company’s water conservation measures within its business activities, products and services, and to address the global water crisis.

Uchu Mukai, LIXIL Chief Environmental Impact Officer commented “It is an honor for LIXIL to be included in the Climate Change A List for the first time. It is a clear indication of our commitment to embedding our environmental strategy to our business. A sustainable home is a better home, and at LIXIL, we recognize the importance of addressing environmental challenges through our products, solutions and business practices, to expand our impact. In FYE2023, we announced mid-term targets towards achieving the LIXIL Environmental Vision 2050 and have made tangible progress against our targets. We will continue to innovate sustainable solutions, and accelerate our efforts, in working with business partners and end-users for today and for tomorrow.”

Water Conservation and Environmental Sustainability is one of the three strategic pillars of LIXIL’s Impact Strategy. The company promotes the LIXIL Environmental Vision 2050 “Zero Carbon and Circular Living,” driving efforts in its priority areas; Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Water Sustainability and Circularity across the organization and in collaboration with its stakeholders. Last year, the company identified the three phases of its Environmental Impact: Our Operations, Our Value Chain and Expanding our Impact and updated its mid-term targets for each. LIXIL aims not only to fulfill its social responsibilities by reducing its environmental risks, but to also create new value by seizing opportunities to maximize the impact of its business.

Last year LIXIL renewed its certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in line with its targets to cap global temperature increase at 1.5ºC compared to pre-industrial temperatures. LIXIL is proactive in finding innovative ways to reduce emissions, switching to renewable energy sources, and has significantly increased its renewable energy usage from 16% in FYE2022 to approximately 26% in FYE2023.

Creating a positive impact through our Products and Solutions
LIXIL helps reduce consumers’ environmental impact through innovations that mitigate CO₂ emissions. One prime example is revia pave, made from the sustainable paving material revia. Revia is created by combining plastic waste and wood waste that contributes to the environment in two key ways: by cutting the amount of CO₂ generated by conventional waste processing compared with conventional methods and by enabling the responsible re-use of plastics as a raw material.

Another innovative product is PremiAL R100, Japan’s first2 low-carbon aluminum building material made from 100% recycled aluminum that can reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions by 80% in the entire process from procurement to processing when compared with smelting new ingots. Leading LIXIL’s commitment to reduce CO₂ emissions and circularity, PremiAL is driving efforts to achieve the company’s mid-term target to use 100% recycled aluminum by FYE2031.
