TICAD Business Expo & Conference LIXIL and UNICEF to Present Five Key Lessons for Strengthening Sanitation Markets in Africa

LIXIL Corporation will host an official side event “FIVE-KEY LESSONS FOR STRENGTHENING SANITATION MARKETS - Lessons Learned from the Make a Splash! Partnership -” with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) at the TICAD Business Expo & Conference, held from August 20-22, 2025, at PACIFICO Yokohama.

This session is an opportunity to explore the journey of improving poor sanitation conditions, based on the groundbreaking shared-value "Make a Splash!" partnership between LIXIL and UNICEF. Since its launch in 2018, the partnership has helped more than 16 million people gain access to basic safe sanitation and hygiene.

The session will feature videos and a panel discussion to report on the "Five Key Lessons" for building sustainable sanitation markets learned through five years of activity. It will showcase specific success stories and approaches—including public-private promotion, innovative strategies to bridge market fragmentation, the role of finance, and navigating regulatory challenges—to share practical insights for achieving SDG 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation for all.

Overview:
This session will share five key lessons for strengthening sanitation markets in Africa from the LIXIL-UNICEF "Make a Splash!" partnership. The discussion will cover topics such as addressing last-mile distribution challenges, creating sustainable demand through public-private promotion, bridging gaps in fragmented supply chains, leveraging public and commercial finance, and overcoming regulatory barriers, supported by concrete success stories and insights.
