    LIXIL has published a report summarizing trends and our efforts in aluminum recycling.
    In recent years, decarbonization has become a critical global issue. Our newly released report, “Facilitating the reuse of resources for a decarbonized society - Aluminum recycling reduces environmental load -” captures the forefront of aluminum recycling, which is indispensable to society, and outlines our goal of achieving aluminum "closed-loop recycling" through proprietary technology.

    Smelting new ingots requires a significant amount of electricity. Using recycled aluminum can reduce 97% of CO₂ emissions from this process. However, collecting and sorting aluminum scraps is a challenge. As of 2019, approximately 34% of global aluminum production came from recycled scrap, although it is anticipated to equal the amount produced from new ingots by 2050. Recycling wrought aluminum requires advanced technology to remove impurities from the scrap, which resulted in only about 10% of the market using recycled material in 2019. However, the aluminum industry in Japan aims to increase the proportion of recycled aluminum up to 50% by 2050¹.

    Leveraging our 25 years of expertise in aluminum recycling, LIXIL has achieved a recycled aluminum usage rate of 78% in its aluminum products. LIXIL has set a goal to achieve a 100% usage rate of recycled aluminum in its housing business by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2031. We are leading the world in aluminum recycling, demonstrating our commitment to both reducing environmental load and growing our business by turning risks into opportunities. We will continue to accelerate our efforts with a long-term perspective to make better homes a reality for everyone, everywhere.
